Family Home, Greenwich
Location: greenwich, London
timescale: 18 months
scope of works: full interior design & bespoke joinery service
This family home was built in the 18th century and is situated in a beautiful area of Greenwich with extensive views over Black Heath.
Focusing on space planning and style, we worked with a local architect to create a large open plan lower ground floor design which gave the family 5 distinctive areas. A new staircase leading to the lower ground floor, an elegant hallway, new open plan kitchen, family TV entertaining room, formal dining room, home study/office, new glass extension and a dog room which leads onto the newly landscaped garden at the rear with views over Canary Wharf and beyond.
FAMILY ROOM
The rear of the property was extended to create a large and contemporary space with sliding doors into the rear garden, along with two large roof lights to allow for maximum light. A focal point in this room was the feature wall we created, to achieve this look we had to clad the wall in Armoucoat walling called Flow XL, this consists of a series of textured panels which are then plaster skimmed and create a tranquil flowing theme which can be up lit at night.
Family dining room
In the dining room we installed a wall to ceiling antique mirror along the back wall, so that it softened the reflection and creates the illusion of a larger space. We complimented this with two CTO wall lights and a beautiful textured wood console made by Rebecca Scott. Hung from the adjacent wall is a large oil painting that the clients relocated from the ground floor.
The circular dining table and chairs were chosen from B&B Italia – we paired this with a textured circular rug from the Juliette Byrne collection designed by Matthew Wailes. Hung over the dining table, we commissioned a circular pendant light by Cameron Designs in a bronze finish to compliment the wall lights.
Kitchen
The kitchen was designed by Mowlem, where the aim was to make a delightful, large but practical kitchen. For the storage units we chose to use a stained oak finish along with a smoked grey mirror and the bar itself was cladded in a metal effect called ages pewter metal lacquer. We used pendants by Ebb 8 flow Clustered together over the seating bar area at the end of the long central bar.
lower groundfloor Hallway
In the lower ground hallway we installed a bespoke pendant by Haberdashery consisting of ceramic glazed leaves which hang from suspended wires with LED mini downlights in the central rose. We also included a rug from The Rug Company which had a strong colourway to add drama as you descended the new polished plaster stairs with a sleek glass handrail.
drawing room
The drawing room was designed so that the clients have an elegant, formal space to entertain in. We selected a curved sofa from Minotti which we covered in a Chanel style tweed and paired this with two armchairs chairs by Oficina Inglesa.
The chandelier was from Bella Figura and consists of a clear Perspex rod design and a bronze detailing. To keep a sense of structure within the drawing and dining room, we used same chandelier design but in an oval shape over the dining table. The circular rug was bespoke and from our Juliette Byrne X Matthew Wailes range. We also added a complimentary large rug from the same range under the dining table which blended both rooms colours together.
Dining room
We sourced this large 12 seater dining table from the Dakota range at Julian Chichester. The table is made of Ebonised Oak with a central dark bronze effect base which we complimented with real suede upholstered chairs from Minotti in an emerald green with bronze leg detail.
Either side of the fireplace we added in two Julian Chichester large free standing bar units which have double doors in a textured effect. The elegance of the units continues through to the interior, the internal lighting gently reflects off of the mirror and glass creating a perfect calming ambience for a dinner party.
Master bedroom
The brief for the master bedroom colour palette was to create a restful and relaxing atmosphere. With this in mind we decided to panel the long wall behind the bed with a faux leather upholstered floor to ceiling feature wall, to create a sense of cosiness. Keeping to neutral tones, we wallpapered the remaining walls in a textured paper from Romo called Lyra Crema.
The simple but elegant bed was sourced from Robert Langford, which we paired with bedside tables from The Sofa & Chair Company. We specified the tables in a high gloss lacquer over light show wood. At the end of the bed we have a long bench covered in a navy velvet fabric from Abbott and Boyd, we added in accents of blue to this room to create more layers and depth.
The bedroom has two large windows with very low cills, which we dressed with full length lined and interlined curtains using a Chase Erwin fabric called Mazarin to frame the view over the garden and beyond. For seating in the window area, we placed a Robert Langford sofa from the Esmerelda range covered in a patterned William Yeoward fabric called Alverdia.
Working with HUX joinery company we designed a new entrance to the bedroom with a concealed door and then a long elegant range of wardrobes with panelled doors and full height storage. The door into the dressing room was added and when completed it created a feature wall of panelled doors and internal mirrors. All of the joinery was redesigned and made out of Xylocleaf from the Penelope Range. New LED lighting was installed and the client’s own clothes and shoes were carefully measured and the cabinetry made to accommodate their clothing and bags.
Guest Bedroom
The adjoining Guest Bedroom suite is one that is often used by friends and family members and needed to be practical but also elegant and welcoming.
We reconfigured the room by moving the bed to the wall opposite the window so that the view over Blackheath can be admired. HUX joinery also installed a long wall of fitted wardrobes and raised the height to maximise the storage space. We ran the new cornice around the room as well as adding in a central ceiling rose which allowed us to hang a large chandelier with glass droplet detailing, which we sourced from Heathfield.
The walls were wallpapered in a Cole & Son paper called Narnia, which creates a sense of drama and visual interest within the room. We added in Robert Langford ‘Baxter’ bedside tables in a dark lacquer finish. They had a bronze handle detail which we carried through the room and used on the dressing table/desk on the opposite wall to the wardrobes.
For the guests to relax we created a seating area in the window and had two armless armchairs from Robert Langford’s Finn range, covered in Zimmer and Rohde fabric called collins with an accent cushion using the citizen fabric from Abbott and Boyd.
