Grand Villa, West London

Location: Wimbledon, South East London
Timescale: Six months
Scope of works: Full interior redesign service

Situated in a prime position in a leafy green suburb in southwest London, this three-story, Grade-II-Listed, Regency-style luxury villa needed a comprehensive update. Built in 1850, this impressive property, which has featured in 25 Beautiful Homes, boasts a hallway, sitting room, family room, kitchen-diner, orangery, utility room, study, cloakroom, four bedrooms (all en-suite), plus a self-contained flat.

Luxury villa boasts light & space

This luxury villa’s ground floor benefits from a show-stopping drawing room that leads off the entrance hall. We completely remodelled this area, making a key feature of the existing fireplace. Adding wall-mounted antique mirrors either side of it, to reflect the light from the large bay windows, further enhances the sense of space.

A pair of Signature sofas from George Smith, upholstered in Linara Stone (natural linen) by ROMO, are instantly inviting. A Christian Liaigre table also offers plenty of opportunity to showcase coffee table books and atmospheric storm lanterns. Other key pieces include a Robert Langford velvet-covered bench in Abbott & Boyd's Amazonie and an occasional chair covered in Veere Grenney fabric. Side tables from Soane and a pendant light from CTO complete this room.

Finally, double doors lead into the luxury villa’s family room. This room’s colour palette was inspired by its eye-catching Indian artwork. We chose the Mamounia rug by Martyn Lawrence Bullard to highlight the accent colours. Two de la Cuona linen sofas, paired with tissue Helene Blanche cushions, also entice family and friends to rest and relax. The finishing touches? A William Yeoward armchair and a practical, yet stylish, faux ostrich leather ottoman.

Light colour palette for luxury villa

We took great care to ensure the renovations complemented the luxury villa’s existing footprint and period feel. So, high, floor-to-ceiling windows create light-filled, open rooms that are perfect for hosting guests and parties. We also chose a light white/neutral colour palette throughout, to create a serene, yet vibrant, atmosphere. In addition, soft furnishings with bold patterns and textures add interest and a dash of personality.

Luxury villa's room with a view

The light and spacious master bedroom benefits from views of this luxury villa’s large, glorious garden. We also added elegance with a new dado rail, floor-to-ceiling wall panels and a new cornice. In addition, we refreshed this room’s soft furnishings with full-length crewelwork curtains, hung from chunky wooden poles. Soft textures and subtle patterns also enhance the neutral tones in this serene bedroom, adding cosiness and warmth. To maximise relaxation opportunities, we sited a chaise longue by Sofa and Chair in front of the elegant floor-to-ceiling windows, in fabric by Aldeco called Cool.
