Georgian Manor House
Location: West sussex, england
timescale: 2 years
scope of works: complete interior design & restoration services, including new rear & side extension and full FF&E package
The main drawing room was an original wing of the property which has fallen into disrepair. We wanted to reinstate all the original architectural features and so the fireplace was fully restored and a real fire grate installed. To complete this area, we added in a fender by ACRES FARM which was upholstered in camel coloured faux suede.
We created a window seat area with cushion fabric by Bernard Thorp and a two-seater sofa by Beaumont and Fletcher upholstered in Nile and York with fringing by Samuel & Sons this sits under a family portrait of our client.
The library snug runs off the hallway and in the winter is the most used room in the house due to its antique oak panelled walls and remaining walls finished in natural hessian and the addition of a large open fireplace with club fender in a corduroy fabric. We wanted to create a small bar area adjacent to the sofa and added some concealed lighting which with the low-level lamps and picture light over the family children’s portrait creates a warm and cosy seating area.
We also added a Pomegranate rug from the Rug Company in yellow ochre and plum red which compliments the Paolo Moschino herringbone sofa piped in red velvet and the vintage leather armchair. The window seats were added to conceal the radiators and the seat cushions were made using fabric by FERMOI ( TBC), cushions by Justin Van Breda and the curtains by Colefax and Fowler.
The formal dining room which is used mainly in the evenings for large dinner parties so we wanted to give the walls a warm elegant wallpaper by ZOFFANY (TBC). The room was given a more classical feel by adding in dado and below dado panelling and this was painted in a dark eggshell Aubergine colour by ….
We also mirrored the top of the fireplace with antique mirrors and this complimented the dark marble surround. Wall lights were placed around the room which take actual candles so that at night the candle light is reflected in the antique mirrors above the side board and on the fireplace.
The bay window had window seats added and large heavily lined and interlined curtains add opulence to the room – the fabric selected was a rose taffeta with a fringe of gold to compliment the crystal antique pendant which hangs over the mahogany dining table. The room is completed by the Robert Langford button backed dining chairs with contrasting fabric on the front and seats.
The Kitchen is the hub of the house with long windows above the sink area and doors into the garden and breakfast room it is a light and uplifting room which draws one in towards the cream AGA and bespoke panelled shaker style kitchen units painted in ELEPHANTS BREATH by F & B (TBC).
We also added in a central island with two bar stools and a green slate top – the clients have added a horse head sculpture by Nic Fiddian – Green. We also added in a window seat upholstered in … with velvet cushions
The floor is by Artisan of Devises and runs throughout the entrance hall and hallways on the ground floor and changes into a reclaimed antique finished wood plank floor in the breakfast room and relaxing family room.
As you enter the property you are greeted by a beautiful stone floor and an elegant original curved staircase and the two doors into the drawing room and library snug. The far end has a dramatic ox blood red paintwork and a studded leather door which is back of house area.
