Georgian Townhouse, Chelsea
Location: Chelsea, London

Our clients had a large family house in Wimbledon where they had brought up their 4 boys for 20 years and as the boys had left home it was decided that the house was far too big for them and a downsize was the way forward for the family. Moving more central was the aim and Chelsea was identified as the ideal location and a Grade II listed Georgian stucco townhouse just off the famous Kings Road was the choice.
The house had been rented out and was very dated and needed a complete renovation which JB was delighted to help with. The plans were drawn up with a better use of space on the ground floor and a central existing column removed to create an open plan drawing room with a glass balcony added to lead to the lower ground floor which was dug out and enlarged to form a small home office, dining area and then a wonderful bright family bathroom with a utility room and wine cellar.
The stairs leading down were made with an open grey oak tread and a textured created in situe by wall by “Armourcoat” was a good way of linking the two floors and also at night creating a wonderful fluid effect. We added up lighters for night time drama and worked with John Cullen lighting who created the lighting layouts and designs for the whole house.
We also added in a bespoke Perspex box with limestone base and this was to display the clients’ African bronze figures which were a way of infilling the existing arch and also adding in the LED lighting for a soft wash of light as you go down into the lower ground.
